Description

  • Sweet cherry
  • Dried herb
  • Subtle spice
  • Fine tannins

"A blend of sangiovese and merlot from the central Italy region of Emilia-Romagna. A mellow, fruity and accessible wine with floral, grape stem, red berry and subtle spicy flavours supported by drying, sappy tannins. Best with food. Very good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review

"Attractively fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows sweet cherry, dried herb, clove and almond characters, followed by a juicy palate that's bright and refreshing. It's elegantly weighted and lingering with fine, chalky tannins, making the wine firm and well structured. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"A canny blend of Italy’s most famous variety with Bordeaux’s most planted, the bouquet features Sangiovese’s savoury tomato characters, along with warm, spicy notes. That savoury, slightly exotic character pops up again on the palate, which is light to medium in weight, with balanced acidity and a dry finish. Above the ordinary & outstanding value for money" Paul Tudor, Master of Wine

A stylish red wine full of soft, luscious cherry flavours and a hint of exotic spice.

Sangiovese is better known as the varietal behind Tuscany's well-structured, complex Chianti wines but in Romagna, talented winemakers such as Scipione Giuliani are also producing Sangiovese wines with great depth and balance, such as this fine example which is blended with Merlot to add extra softness. The Sangiovese and Merlot grapes used to produce the Monte Giove are harvested from the Bidente Valley. Located in the Emilia Romagna region, the temperature fluctuates between warm days and chilly nights. This attributes the grapes with a persistent aroma and fruity flavour. Only the best grapes carefully harvested. They are then carefully fermented in stainless steel tanks at carefully moderated temperatures, in order to preserve the red fruit flavours.

Food Pairing: It is delicious with the traditional foods of Emilia Romagna - charcuterie and mature hard cheeses.
