Description
Cherry, Floral, Oak
"An excellent regional expression of 2023, fermented with 11% whole bunch, gentle and fine palate with ripe fruit, spice and depth, layering lacy acidity and dusty fine tannins. Harmonious and enticing, a lot to love" Candice Chow, Wine Chat
"Very bright with a ruby core and purple-pink rim leads to a bouquet of vibrant dark fleshed cherry, raspberry and savoury dried herb and barrel spices. Youthful, fresh and very engaging. A youthful, taut wine touches the palate first with tension and poise held in place by the acidity and seam of newish French oak. Tannins layer in mouthfeel with a fine grained texture, the core fruit flavours deliver contrast and varietal highlights. A floral seam and mineral character adding breadth and complexity. A delicious wine that is drinkable today though best in your cellar with ideal drinking from 2027 through 2037" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2024
"Dark-fruited with spice bazaar aromas, this serious, muscular pinot spans the black cherry to plum spectrum with woody tannins which arrive early on the front-palate. Quite drying at this young stage, it needs time to integrate and absorb the oak. The mid-weight flavours are persistent and hint at licorice root and nutmeg complexity in time" Stephen Wong, The Real Review, Oct 2024
An enticing Pinot Noir, firm yet elegant, with red and black cherries, plum, raspberry, black tea and dried floral notes.
Established in 1864 by Jean Désiré Féraud, Monte Christo is the birthplace of Central Otago wine. Our wines are made with 100% estate-grown fruit sourced from our vineyards across three distinct sub-regions, the Alexandra Basin, Bannockburn and Pisa. Utilising sustainable farming practices and minimal intervention methods in the winery, the outcome is elegant, refined, and impeccably balanced wines epitomising the terroir of Central Otago.
2023 was a warm, even growing season with average rainfall and low incidence of frosts. Wines show optimal ripeness, medium body and bright acidity.
