- Medium-bodied & long finish
"A jewel, one of those wines you can drink with glorious abandon – or simply sit quietly to enjoy its subtle complexities. You can see your fingers holding the stem of the glass – Sangiovese, I am told, should never show up opaque, and is questionable if it does. But the wine is transparent also in that, in a single sip, you can sense the place, the much-loved vines, the classic galestro/albarese soil, the sun, the dappled shade on the well-cared-for canopy. Intelligent and delightful" Emily O'Hare, Decanter Magazine, Dec 2020
This wine is a deep ruby red in colour with hints of purple. Bouquet of intense mountain herbs, aromas of cranberry, wild cherry and red plums, anise, spice, and orange peel. It is fresh and fruity on the palate, medium-bodied, well balanced, with a nice structure, juicy acidity and a long finish.
Retromarcia is a Chianti Classico made from 100% Sangiovese grapes (since 2010). The grapes come from vineyards consisting of shale (Galestro) 70%, sandstone (Arenaria-Calcare-Pietraforte) 20%, limestone (Alberese) 10%. The vineyards age range from plantings 2003-2010. The vinification and maturation is reminiscent of a more traditional style Chianti Classico; the result is a fresh and fruity, medium-bodied, well-balanced wine, with a nice structure, juicy acidity and a long finish.
This wine is made of 100% Sangiovese grapes (since 2010). Grapes were fermented and macerated (skin on) in a combination of concrete and stainless steel vats for an average of 23 days. They were then naturally fermented in oak and finally matured for 18 months in large casks, non-lined concrete (30%) and used Tonneaux. This wine is biodynamic and organic certified.
Food Pairing: Typical Tuscan dishes and medium aged cheeses.
