Description
Blueberry, Boysenberry, Oak
"Varietal, intense, ripe, youthful and very inviting bouquet of dark plums and baked raspberry flesh, scents of clove and wood smoke, baked meats, red licorice and flat mushrooms frame the bouquet with precision and style. A dry wine touches the palate with contrasting red and blue fruit flavours from plums to raspberry and moments of jam and baking spices. Firm tannins and acidity frame the palate well with core flavours from the bouquet and a stony mineral quality. Complex and youthful, lengthy and well made. A food wine with many matching attributes. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2023
This superb Syrah from the exceptional 2020 vintage brims with intense flavour and complexity, displaying luscious boysenberry, and blueberry fruits. Subtle spice and liquorice, round off a beautifully integrated and refined palate. Eminently drinkable now, it will also greatly reward cellaring for longer term enjoyment.
The grapes for this distinguished wine were grown exclusively in our highly regarded Mere Road Vineyard in the celebrated Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District of Hawkes Bay. Elspeth represents our top tier of wines produced from our own vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay. The fruit is hand-picked and only under the Elspeth label when fruit is of exceptional quality. Our winemaking team share the philosophy of a hands-on, no expense spared approach to produce these fine award winning wines. The range is limited to chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux style reds.
Food Pairing: Food Pairing: Enjoy with braised beef cheeks or barbeque spare ribs.
