Description
Almond, Blackcurrant, Oak
"It's delightfully fruited and inviting on the nose with blackcurrant, thyme, clove and toasted almond notes, leading to a succulent palate that's medium-full and finely textured with a lingering, sturdy finish. Beautifully composed and harmonious, offering excellent drinking. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2024
The wine exhibits a deep red-purple hue, exuding richness and allure, while maintaining a bright and vibrant appearance. Aromas of cassis, mulberries, and blackcurrants dominate the nose, immersing you in a world of dark and enticing fruits. The fragrance is further enhanced by the presence of mulberry leaf, lending an herbal freshness to the bouquet. Subtle earthy notes add depth and complexity, creating a sense of connection to the land. A delicate hint of bay leaf adds a touch of savory allure, contributing to the overall aromatic tapestry. On the palate, the wine unveils a captivating display of dark blackcurrant fruits, inviting you to indulge in their lusciousness. The flavors are accompanied by lovely, fine-grained tannins that provide a remarkable sense of length and structure. The tannins weave seamlessly with the fruit, creating a harmonious and balanced mouthfeel. Each sip reveals the wine’s complexity and depth, leaving a lasting impression and a desire for more.
Metala is a historic single vineyard in South Australia’s Langhorne Creek and includes the oldest family-owned Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world. Wines are handcrafted by fifth generation custodian Guy Adams, with an ‘always faithful’ Australian spirit.
The iconic White Label collection are sourced from parcels of fruit throughout the Metala single vineyard and represent the power and expression of Langhorne Creek.
In 2022, higher mid-winter rainfall and a cold, windy spring led to a moderate crop level. Downy mildew appeared in the vineyard due to rain and humidity in January and February. The vintage experienced a cool and humid summer influenced by La Niña, resulting in a delayed harvest compared to recent years. However, the wines showcased a newfound brightness and good acidity, reminiscent of past vintages.
The Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested as four separate parcels which were kept separate in the winery and only brought together in the final blend. The wine was matured in a combination of seasoned French oak barriques with 5% in new French oak hogsheads for around 12 months. Minimal winemaking intervention with the use of a uniquely designed gravity ‘lift’ tank.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with big flavours like Chorizo, Chilli Pasta, Herb-infused meats and Rich Tomato-Based Pasta Dishes.
