Maui Waipara Pinot Noir 2018 (By Tiki Wines)
Fruit focused, bright & elegant
Fruit focused, bright & elegant
Description
Ruby-red colour with some depth and slight purple hues. Elegant in proportion with bright and fresh primary aromas of dark-red cherry fruit entwined with fresh herb notes. This is fruit focussed and uncomplicated, but builds in depth with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has fresh and lively fruit flavours of spicy darkred cherries harmoniously melded with subtle notes of dark herbs with lifted red florals. The fruit grows in concentration and is enlivened by refreshing acidity, and the wine flows along a light, grainytextured line with some underlying alcoholic drive. The wine carries to a cherry-fruited finish. This is a fresh, lively fruit-focussed, dark-red cherry flavoured Pinot Noir with herb nuances on a light, grainy palate.
The 2018 Vintage in the Waipara Valley was typified by warm daytime temperatures, tempered by cool nights. An ideal summer ensured great vine health and fruit condition. Harvesting of fruit was carried out early in April. The fruit was destemmed without crushing to retain a percentage of whole berries in the ferment. Fermentation was carried out in small fermenters with regular daily hand plunging of the cap to extract colour and tannins. Further maceration post-ferment and prior to pressing has enhanced the palate with soft but firm tannins. After malolactic fermentation the wine underwent a period of oak maturation prior to stabilising for bottling. The wine has not been fined in order to retain maximum flavour and mouthfeel.
Serve with tuna and salmon, and with antipasto and tapas.
