Matias Riccitelli Vineyard Selection Cabernet Franc 2018 (Argentina)

Matias Riccitelli Vineyard Selection Cabernet Franc 2018 (Argentina)
Matias Riccitelli Vineyard Selection Cabernet Franc 2018 (Argentina)

Description

The winery is located in the oldest and highest area of Lujan de Cuyo, the most prestigious area for grape growing in Argentina. Like neighbouring Cheval Des Andes – recently purchased by Cheval Blanc (and their only vineyard outside Bordeaux) – Riccatelli’s 20 hectares of ungrafted old vines were planted between 1910 – 1930’s, with the majority planted in 1927 on clay, stony soils on top of calcareous rocks. The old vines regulate their yield naturally, resulting in wines of power and concentration. The winemaking focus is to secure the best expression of these old vines on clay and stone soils. This has resulted in a winemaking program that largely uses concrete tanks for fermentation and large french barrels for maturation. With a strong following in Argentina, the US and the UK, based on wine quality and scores like 97 points in James Suckling for “& Father” we are fortunate to represent Riccatelli. Their wines are flavourful, complex, expressive and stunning examples of the very best that Argentina produces. The winemaker/owner, Mathis Riccitelli, spent two vintages in Central Otago.
