Maretti Langhe Rosso 2022 (Italy)
Delivering excellent Italian drinkability
Delivering excellent Italian drinkability
Description
Blackberry, Herbal, Oak
The 2022 Langhe Rosso is a vibrant and expressive red blend that captures the character of Piedmont. Aromas of ripe red cherry, wild berries, and violet are layered with hints of dried herbs, anise, and a subtle earthy undertone. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with juicy red fruit, supple tannins, and a touch of spice from gentle oak ageing. Bright acidity provides lift and structure, making this a versatile, food-friendly wine with a long, savoury finish.
Piedmont, in the foothills of the Alps in the north west of Italy, is home to the country’s finest full-bodied red wines. The greatest wines are made from the extremely long lived Nebbiolo. Barbera however is the most widely planted and popular variety, due to its fruit-driven expressiveness and youthful approachability.
The 2022 vintage in Piedmont was shaped by persistent dry and warm conditions, beginning with an early spring and accelerated flowering. Harvest started early under continued dry skies, helping to retain aromatics and freshness. Despite the challenges, the wines’ balance and approachability defy expectations of an overly rich, tannic style.
Vinified separately with each parcel naturally fermented in stainless steel. The Nebbiolo is immediately separated from skins whilst the Barbera receives a further week maceration. The fruit is matured independently in a mix of small French oak casks and large Slavonion oak for eight months before blending and a further four months ageing in large oak casks.
Food Pairing: Whether you’re pairing it with food or enjoying it solo, it’s an approachable wine. Ideal for pasta or pizza.
