  • French oak
  • Lemon zest & grapefruit
  • Buttered toast
  • Creamy & elegant

"Complex and enticing bouquet, layers of fruit and wood spice, soil and brazil-nut oak, toasty barrel and baked custard. On the palate - creamy, weighty, fruity and loaded with personality. Flavours of fresh and baked stone fruits, grapefruit and apple. Medium+ acidity, lots of texture, some fine wood tannins and long finish. Lots to like - a great tasting wine. Best drinking from today and through 2024" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Aug 2020

"Quite a lush, fleshy and flavoursome with peach, tree fruit, spice, toast, brioche and bread crust flavours. Dry but with with a lingering and delicately succulent finish. Good value at this price. A real crowd-pleaser" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2020

Lemon zest and beeswax with a toasty, smoky character combine to give a lovely, tempting aroma. The palate has flavours of citrus and buttered toast balanced by a gentle acidity. A rich and weighty yet elegant wine. This wine will continue to develop favourably for some time. Enjoy form now over the next five years.

From the coastal vineyard where the sea breezes moderate temperatures, this block is situated on the banks of the Wairau Diversion. The silts and river stones combine with 16 – 20-year-old Mendoza clone vines to produce the perfect match. The 2019 vintage was near perfect allowing a long, slow ripening period and no disease pressure. A special year for Chardonnay.

Lawson's winemaking practices remain very similar from one year to the next. The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed and the juice settled briefly before being racked to French oak barrels (22% new). The juice was fermented ‘wild’ and encouraged to undergo full malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked from barrel and blended prior to being bottled here at the winery some ten months later.
