Kelly Washington Southern Valleys Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Made in a way that is atypical of Sauvignon Blanc
Made in a way that is atypical of Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Dry, Mineral, Oak
Made in a way that is atypical of Sauvignon Blanc from the region, the Kelly Washington Sauvignon Blanc subsequently has quite a unique expression. The hallmark of the wine is a savoury texture; thanks largely to aging on lees in French oak and a concrete egg, and also the inclusion of Semillon. The palate is vibrant and defined, yet complex and structured. Overall, a very grown up and delicious Sauvignon Blanc!
Coming right off the back of a very good vintage in 2023, 2024 proved to be another excellent harvest. The growing season was classically Marlborough, with a cool dry spring and warm summer temperatures prevailing. Cool nights right up to, and during harvest, helped to retain acidity and keep disease at bay. We harvested the fruit nearly one week earlier than in 2023, in pristine condition and in the riper spectrum.
Commenced fermentation after 7 days, a combination of wild and cultured yeast. After two months fermenting the wine remained in the fermentation vessels for a further 3 months on lees.
