Kaesler Stonehorse Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2017 (Australia)
Full of fresh character with balanced acidity
Full of fresh character with balanced acidity
Description
- French oak
- Blueberries
- Fresh rhubarb
- Fine tannins
This GSM is garnet in colour with perfumes of blue and black fruits of blueberries and blackcurrant and fresh violet florals on the nose. Savoury notes and pepper spice, fresh rhubarb and fleshy fruit characters. Fine tannins and balanced acidity; length on the palate.
A blend of Grenache (66%), Shiraz (28%), Mourvedre (6%) grown in Barossa Valley.
The Stonehorse wines are full of character like the teams of Clydesdale horses that used to work the heavy clay soil at the Kaesler vineyard, long before tractors were invented. This wine reflects this history well, with Grenache and Mourvedre sourced from plantings originating from the 1930’s and Shiraz planted 1985.
Estate grown fruit was crushed and de-stemmed, live yeast was then added for ferment. After malolactic fermentation the wine was racked and then returned to barrels. Matured in 3 year old French oak barriques for 15 months. The Grenache contributes vibrant fruit and softness; the Shiraz provides palate depth and aromatic spice. A wine to enjoy in its youth, however, it will happily live for a further 10 years.
