A light & easy-drinking style
Description
Blackberry, Oak, Smoke
"From Johner Estate, an absolute bargain. Buy before I do! Very smoky, ripe and juicy with umami soy and tar. Ripe blackberry, plum and dark berry fruits. Medium tannic lengthy finish" Phil Parker, Sep 2024
A light and easy-drinking style of Pinot Noir with sweet berry and lifted savoury spice notes.
In the early 1970s Karl Heinz Johner studied Oenology and Viticulture in Geisenheim, Germany. When travelling the world, looking at Pinot Noir, he encountered New Zealand for the first time. The landscape felt quite familiar, but what fascinated Karl even more was the Pinot Noir. The cool climate conditions are perfect and there's a booming spirit. Karl firmly believes that the Wairarapa is the ideal place outside of Burgundy to grow world-class Pinot Noir.
The hand-picked grapes are 100% de-stemmed, then cold macerated and the fermentation was stopped a little sooner in the process to retain the natural sugars. Aged in French oak for 12 months.
Food Pairing: Can be enjoyed with a wide range of food choices.
