Upfront & fabulously drinkable
Wine Orbit
Description
- French oak
- Dark berry fruit
- Crunchy acidity
- Fine tannins
"Bright and beautifully perfumed on the nose showing sweet plum, blueberry, violet and warm spice aromas, it's pristine and flavoursome in the mouth with rounded mouthfeel and silky texture. Upfront and fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022
Vibrant red with violet hues. Fruit aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry and cranberry with savoury characters and oak complexity. The palate is mid weight and retains a fresh crunchy acidity. Texturally, the tannins are very fine and the mouthfeel is full.
The fruit for the 2021 Syrah was sourced from a tightly-centered group of vineyards in the Bridge Pa sub-region of Hawke’s Bay.
Vintage 2021 has been of exceptional quality and the resulting wines will be celebrated and reflected on for many years to come. With a lower yield due to a combination of frosts and cooler weather during flowering, the grapes ripened quickly resulting in a compact and quick harvest.
The grapes were harvested into small bins to ensure we had whole berries for fermentation. The fruit was cold soaked in open top fermenters for a brief period before the fermentation process kicked off with natural yeasts from the vineyard and winery. Post fermentation the wine was pressed to oak to undergo malolactic fermentation. It was then assembled, filtered and bottled.
Food Pairing: Drink with grilled meats or spicy Asian meat dishes.
