Francis Ford Coppola Diamond Chardonnay 2017 (California)
Concentrated flavours with a round silky palate
Concentrated flavours with a round silky palate
Description
Golden yellow tones in the glass this wine is intensely fragrant with apricot, quince, and crème brulee. On the palate pineapple, citrus fruits, and melon flavours are showcased. Concentrated flavour nuances and a round silky palate, the wine was left on lees until bottling for added layers of dimension and complexity. Bright and balanced, highlighted by juicy apple, cantaloupe and pear flavors enveloped in a crème brûlée finish.
Diamond Collection wines are classic California expressions that offer fruit-forward, multi-dimensional flavor and immediate drinkability. Our Chardonnay hails from Monterey County. Part of the fruit comes from a vineyard in the Gabilan mountain range where sandy loam soils result in concentrated fruit. The other half comes from an Arroyo Seco vineyard that produces grapes with a high level of natural acidity. When these two wines are blended together, we create a Chardonnay with optimal balance. To further its complexity, the wine rests on its lees until such time as part of the wine is placed into barrels while the remainder is finished in stainless steel. This gives the wine subtle wood nuances without overpowering the more delicate flavour.
Winemaking has been a Coppola family tradition for several generations, as in his own word Francis F. Coppola explains: "My family has always made wine - these were not fancy wines; they were everyday wines, wines that were on the dinner table each night. Our Rosso & Bianco are made in the same spirit – wines for everyday life". Agostino Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola's grandfather, used to make wine in the basement of his New York apartment building using concrete vats he constructed himself. According to Francis's Uncle Mikey, they weren't fancy wines, just pleasant everyday drinking wines that anyone could enjoy. The wines that Francis Ford Coppola makes today at his namesake winery aren't the same as those Agostino made, but they are produced in the same spirit - for sharing with friends and family.
The Coppola commitment to quality wine has always included a commitment to environmentally responsible practices. For more than forty years the Coppola family has looked for innovative ways to improve efficiency, minimize impacts and create a nurturing habitat for wildlife, staff and the public.
