Description

Cherry, Oak, Spice

Bright garnet in colour the wine opens with spice and savoury characters, which are the hallmark of Martinborough Pinot Noir. This is an elegant expression with red fruit accents, reminiscent of fresh summer berries. There is also an autumnal feel to the wine, with turned earth, sumac and dark chocolate. The palate is taught and juicy, with forest floor and more of the savoury nuances coming through. It is crunchie and fresh, with a vibrancy and softness that is carried by silky tannin. This is a wine that is created with early drinking in mind but will reward with a few years in the cellar.

The Noir label brings together over three decades of wine making experience, creating a soft, bright, fruit forward wine which can be enjoyed immediately or will cellar successfully for several years. Made using traditional techniques from fruit grown on the Martinborough terrace. The fruit was destemmed into open top vessels and fermented using indigenous yeast. After an average vat time of 23 days the wine was pressed off and aged in predominately older French barriques for 10 months, with 16% new French oak. Bottled without fining, the resulting wine is a blend of 36 individual parcels. Structure and texture sit perfectly with ripe fruit flavours and gentle tannins that combine with intriguing complexity. Enjoy upon release with many types of cuisine, or cellar confidently for up to 5 years.

Food Pairing: Serve at 16°C and enjoy with a wide array of red meat and rich pasta dishes, or as a perfect accompaniment to a barbeque.
