Description
- Dry style
- Red currant
- Wild forest flowers
- Tangy acidity
"Bright, even, pale blush pink. This has an intense, perfumed bouquet of violet, red currant, red plum, spice and a hint of mealiness. Medium-bodied, intense aromas of red currant and plum enveloping violet, spice and hints of chorizo. The intense fruit shows elegance with floral details and spice; tangy acidity flows effortlessly with fine-textured phenolics and lingers to a refreshing, spicy finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Nov 2022
"Made with a range of red varieties the bouquet is fresh, vibrant, fruity and very enticing with scents of red melon and red apple, some light raspberry and red cherry qualities then wild forest flowers and dry stone soil note. No mistaking the refreshing hit of acidity and fruit flavours with a saline edge, crisp and dry, lengthy and ready. A wine that reflects the bouquet with flavours of berries and flowers, a very fine fruit tannins mouthfeel, fresh acid line and a ‘drink me now’ quality. Best from 2022 through end of summer 2024" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2022
"It's delicately expressed on the nose showing raspberry, grapefruit, flint and oatmeal nuances, followed by a finely focused palate offering elegant fruit flavours backed by racy acidity, finishing persistent and linear. A firmly structured style with restrained flavours" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2022
A juicy and gently fruity wine made from a blend of red varieties offering soft red berry and plum flavours, with just a touch of natural sweetness.
Elephant Hill produces handcrafted, small batch, artisinal wines from a blend of up to three sustainably farmed Hawke's Bay vineyards that each contributes a distinctive elemental character: sea, earth and stone.
2022 was one of the warmest years on record with well above long term average heat accumlation days. A dry start and good flowering, then perfectly formed bunches, a sunny January with some late February rains. It never got hot, just warm, so acids and freshness were still retained in the fruit with a short and compact hervest period. The whites show crisp freshness and reds displays elegant, mid bodied fruit flavours.
73% Syrah and 27% Tempranillo grapes left to soak on the skins allowing a gentle extraction of colour and flavour. Aged in tank on lees without oak.
Food Pairing: The perfect pizza and platter wine.
