Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Description
Dry
"This wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc (see the Branded and Other White Wines section). Hand-harvested at several sites in the Wairau Valley, it is lees-aged in tanks but handled without oak. The classy 2016 vintage is highly scented, very fresh and vibrant. Weighty, it has searching, ripe grapefruit/lime flavours, firm acid spine and a dry (3 grams/litre of residual sugar), lasting finish. Highly concentrated and tightly structured, it's a very harmonious wine, arguably the best vintage yet." Michael Cooper, Dec 2016
"Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. The nose is full with harmoniously presented aromas of ripe green stonefruits, showing nectarines and greengages along with aromatic fresh herbs, capsicums and a subtle layering of minerals. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is fresh, crisp and zesty with bright, racy acidity enlivening the flavours of ripe gooseberries and green stonefruits. The flavours are softly balanced and integrated, and combine with soft phenolic textures to lend good mouthfeel and presence. The fruit has an underlying richness and lusciousness, enhanced by the acidity, and carries to a long, fine-textured, dry finish. This is a harmonious-fruited Sauvignon Blanc with flavours of gooseberries and green stonefruits, on a brisk, racy, fine-textured palate. Match with herb-marinated seafood and poultry dishes over the next 2+ years. Fruit from multiple sites predominantly Lower Brancott, Renwick, Fairhall, Omaka, with some Rapaura material, stainless-steel, 25% fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc. and 3.7 g/L RS." Raymond Chan, Jan 2017
"Dog Point is one of my favourites, and this 2016 is singing. It’s a little riper and fuller than in some years, but it has a lovely nervousness and delicacy, too. Intense aromatics here with floral, passionfruit notes hemmed in with smoky, matchstick, mineral characters. This is good reduction in action, and it frames the fresh, direct citrus, grapefruit and passionfruit characters on the palate really well. Nice acidity and focus, with a long, bright finish. A lovely wine with more than a hint of seriousness about it." Jamie Goode, Jan 2017
Straw Green. Flinty, with floral notes, complimented by exotic tropical fruit of quava, melon, lemon and lime. A mineral backbone, soft lingering acidity, textural palate, strong citrus core.
Food match: Shell fish especially muss els and oysters, white meats and soft cheeses.
