De Bortoli DB Family Selection Pinot Grigio NV (Australia)

A bright & expressive wine

A bright & expressive wine
Description
Dry, Lemon, Pear
Citrus notes with a floral undertone. Pear and lemon zest. Round palate with a crisp line of acidity, complementing a textural finish.
A celebration of our Italian roots, planted in Australian soil. Enjoyed internationally, these wines reflect the styles of wine that have been appreciated by the De Bortoli family for four generations.
Low yielding, young vineyards and a splash of Riesling to add some fruit lift and length to the “Grigio”.
Higher than average rainfall during winter and at flowering lead to a high Downy Mildew disease period which resulted in a crop reduction of around 35%. A cooler than usual ripening period and no rain during spring and summer meant there was no more disease pressure and fruit was picked at optimum ripeness. This was the latest harvest on record beginning 4 weeks later than normal.
To secure the desired colour tone the juice is hyper-oxidized prior to alcoholic fermentation which help remove the bronze/copper colour of Grigio. Part of it is fermented in 16, 17 and 19 years old French barrels whereas the rest is inoculated with a selected strain of yeast in controlled temperature stainless steel tanks. The wine is then kept on fine lees for 4 months to help intensify the flavours and add texture to the palate.
