Description
Mocha, Oak, Plum
“Delightfully fruited and immediately appealing, the bouquet presents sweet plum, cherry, olive, and mixed spice aromas. The palate displays succulent fruit flavours, a silky texture, and beautifully integrated tannins, making it harmonious and well-structured with a lengthy, supple finish. At its best: now to 2029.” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
“Bright ruby red (though not especially deep), the bouquet boasts dark cherry, tomato leaf, and earthy characters. Exuberant, ripe, berry fruit is the primary impression one gets on the palate, but this affordable Pinot also manages to pack in firm, savoury tannins, and a complex aftertaste. More savoury/earthy than your average New Zealand Pinot Noir but, combined with that firm finish, this makes for a much more interesting food wine.” Paul Tudor, Master of Wine
Produced by the highly acclaimed LGI wines, who were awarded Best French Still Wine Producer at the Berliner Wein Trophy for three years in a row. Originally the brainchild of Alain Grignon and UK Master of Wine Mark Lynton, who had a vision of making affordable, modern French wines designed specifically for the international market. Now under the supervision of oenologist Xavier Roger with wines tailor-made to appeal to Kiwi tastes through local importer Steve Bennett, Master of Wine.
The Combe Rocher (literally ‘rocky valley’) range is one of pure authenticity crafted from carefully selected terroirs, situated on high altitude slopes, with rocky soils. The terroir effect is very noticeable in this region due to the great variety of winegrowing microclimates that create an expression of the grape varieties that is unique. This specific Pinot is planted on calcareous marl vineyards with fantastic exposure to the sun.
Grapes are sorted and destemmed. Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature, and the wine is punched down daily until fermentation is finished. A percentage of the wine is matured under the influence of French oak while the balance is kept in stainless steel to preserve the vibrant fruit characteristics.
Food Pairing: Great with mushroom dishes, aged cheese, grilled duck, chicken, pork and beef.
