"A lovely example with a core of pinosity led by a textured mouthfeel from fine needle point tannins and a backbone of acidity framing flavours of boysenberry and plum then cherry and some red apple flavours. Nice weight and intensity with vanilla and baking spice layers with some smokey oak and sandy soil ideas. Beautifully fragrant, the wine is built around a core of black cherry and berry fruit, overlaid with beautiful floral and spice notes, with complexity of savoury herb and mushroom. The oak is subtle, supporting and darkening the wine without dominating the fruit. The palate is medium weight with a fine line of acidity and firm youthful tannin driving good textural length. We expect this wine to cellar gracefully for 10 years or more.

Off a single estate situated on a free draining schist terrace just above the lake. This site is relatively warm and sheltered, with the lake helping to moderate the local climate. It has produced a wine with textural ripeness while retaining very good fragrance and typicity.

The block is a mixture of clones, each bring a different structural element and another layer of aroma and flavour. The fruit was hand harvested and transported overnight to our winery in Hawke’s Bay.

Food Pairing: The richness and complexity of this Pinot Noir makes it well suited to a variety of meat or game dishes, particularly where savoury flavours abound.
