Chalk Hill Russian River Chardonnay 2018 (California)
Round, rich & distinctly Chalk Hill
Round, rich & distinctly Chalk Hill
Description
- Barrel fermented, Sur Lie
- Lemon & orange peel
- Vanila bean & custard
- Rich, elegant finish
The 2018 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is round, rich and distinctly Chalk Hill. The nose expresses aromas of lemon, orange peel, and a hint of vanilla bean from the oak influence. This wine is balanced and bright with concentrated flavors of creamy lemon custard, poached pear, almond, and spice. This Chardonnay is known for its long, rich and elegant finish, and this vintage is no exception.
Since its founding, Chalk Hill has been producing artisan wines from the estate vineyards in the hills of northeastern Sonoma County. While 300+ acres of vineyards surrounding the winery will always be the cornerstone of the wineries identity, in addition to the Estate Chardonnay, winemakers started producing their first Russian River Valley Chardonnay in 2018 which comes from select Foley Family vineyards throughout the acclaimed Chalk Hill and Russian River Valley growing regions.
The 2018 growing season was one of the mildest and smoothest in recent memory. Mild spring weather led to good fruit set in most varietals and moderate weather throughout the year made for ideal growing conditions. There were no major heat spikes, which gave a longer hang-time and great ripening on the vine. While a fairly long harvest, the 2018 crop delivered fruit with complex flavors and was of excellent quality.
Food Pairing: Pair this Chardonnay with grilled salmon in a garlic butter sauce.
