Black Barn Hawke's Bay Syrah 2016
Complexity with elegant fruit tannins
Complexity with elegant fruit tannins
Description
Ruby with deep purple hues in the glass. The bouquet showcases white spice, cherry, bramble and floral notes with a restratined vanillin oak presence. This wine has a fine front palate that progresses to elegant fruit tannins, with bright acidity leading to a long finish.
Individual vineyard parcels were selectively picked. The majority was de-stemmed with sorting to open top red fermentation tanks. Hand plunged three times a day. A small parcel was whole cluster fermented with a portion of Viognier. This gives an added layer of complexity. The wine remained on skins for 14-21 days then pressed to barrel or tank for natural Malolactic fermentation. Maturation - elevage for 14 months prior to final blending.
Black Barn take an approach of making Syrah in a more elegant style using winemaking more in line with Burgundy. Think of it as ‘‘Double shot Pinot’’.
