Ant Mackenzie Theory & Practice Hawke's Bay Pinot Gris 2019

Beautifully complex with oak & stone fruit characters

Beautifully complex with oak & stone fruit characters
Description
- Dry style
- European oak
- Vanilla & brioche
- Floral & citrus
Richly flavoured with a spectrum of tropical fruits from apricot to pineapple, balanced by lifted florals and a citrus note similar to orange blossom. Delicate notes of vanilla and brioche from the Fuder oak add an extra layer of interest to the wine. The palate is full bodied and rich with a very plush texture, while on the palate there are flavours of canned peach and suggestions of Turkish Delight. These layers of richness come mainly from perfectly ripened grapes allowing for some residual sugar in the wine, and the contribution of the one year old German Fuder and warm fermentation temperatures.
All fruit was machine harvested and pressed to tank. After 48 hours of settling the clear juice was transferred to 1 x 1000L German oak Fuder (45%) and tank (55%). Fermentation was undertaken with a combination of natural vineyard yeasts along with some inoculated yeasts. After nine months of aging the barrels and tank were blended and the wine bottled.
Theory & Practice wines are made by winemaker Ant Mackenzie working in partnership with selected Hawke’s Bay growers. This range of wines showcase the best qualities of the Hawke’s Bay wine region.
Food Pairing: Enjoy this wine in casual settings and with summer salads.
