Description
Cherry, Oak, Spice
"Sweetly fruited with complexity, showing dark cherry, olive, cured meat, thyme, and nutmeg aromas on the nose. It's juicy and beautifully rounded in the mouth, offering silky texture backed by fine-grained tannins, finishing long and finely dry" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2025
"Tasted out of magnum, this Tempranillo based wine is classic, dry, fruity and ready to drink with flavours of dark plums and aged meats, a mix of cinnamon and baking spices, polished dusty tannins and medium-weighted mouthfeel. Balanced, well made, fruity, varietal and ready to drink from 2025 through 2029" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2025
"Anciano Rioja captures the essence of Rioja’s heritage, delivering rich, oak-aged complexity at remarkable value" Wine Enthusiast
"Anciano’s Rioja portfolio reflects the heart of Rioja Alta, offering elegant, fruit-driven wines with a touch of oak" Decanter
"Crafted with tradition in mind, Anciano’s Rioja offerings blend vibrant fruit with silky, spiced elegance" The Drinks Business
Bright ruby red with ripe wild berry and cherry fruit aromas, sweet herbs and a hint of spice. Beautifully smooth and silky, fresh and fruity, with rounded tannins. A touch of vanilla leads to a lingering finish. Drink now through 2028. Serve 16–18 °C.
Impress your friends at BBQs and parties with this incredible value, soft, supple, vanilla-kissed Tempranillo. From leading producer Criadores de Rioja, owned by the famed Vivanco family with one of the longest traditions in Rioja. The winery is situated in the Iregua Valley, below the ruins of the Castillo de Clavijo near Logroño, at the heart of Rioja Alta. Winemaker Azucena Hervella produces this CVC (“conjunto de varias cosechas”) multi-vintage blend, which offers great value by including oak-matured elements at an extremely affordable price.
The estate benefits from a favourable microclimate and chalky-clay soils. Mature vines are grown in premium high-altitude (300-500m) vineyards on gravel and sandy soils in Rioja Alta. Hand-harvested when perfectly ripe, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures (28-30˚C). Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 6 months in American oak barrels. This results in the perfect balance of vibrant fruit and light vanilla spice flavours.
Food Pairing: Ideal for big gatherings: grilled meats, roast chicken, pasta, rice dishes, vegetable bakes or simply sharing with friends. Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.
