Alpha Domus Collection Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2020
Generous & flavoursome with balance
Generous & flavoursome with balance
Description
- French oak
- Citrus blossom
- Tropical fruit
- Crisp, lingering finish
Golden hued with a touch of lemon yellow, reflective of the warmer vintage. The bouquet abounds with appealing toasted oak influences, pure scented citrus blossom, and golden peach characters. Embellished with layers of tropical fruit flavours and sweet spice from French oak all wrapped around a smooth textural mid palate with a crisp, lingering finish. Generous and flavoursome, but with balance and grace.
An unprecedented spring hailstorm severely affected their Chardonnay blocks in the Alpha Domus vineyard. This weather event heavily reduced the yield on the vines and these blocks were repruned to ensure that they could lay good wood for the following season. Luckily this was a very localised event, and they were able to source Chardonnay from other parts of Hawke’s Bay.
Made from a combination of different subregions and vineyards carefully selected for quality and flavour. The fruit was harvested and pressed quickly with minimal winemaking intervention to preserve fruit flavour. Once clear juice is racked off, a combination of selected and wild yeast is used for fermentation. Maturation on light yeast lees adds texture and flavour which is balanced by fresh natural acidity from the grapes. Bottled under screw cap to maintain freshness and integrity of the wine through to your glass.
From their origins in 1989, establishing both vineyard and winery, Alpha Domus was a pioneer in the renowned Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District of Hawke’s Bay. New Zealand family owned, they have always been inspired to create beautiful wines of worth; the importance of quality and expert craftsmanship paramount. Alpha is derived from the first initials of the founding family members names in age descending order, Anthonius, Leonarda, Paulus, Henrikus and Anthonius, Domus is Latin for home.
Food Pairing: Will accompany your seafood, white meats, and salads perfectly.
