"It's attractively ripe and inviting on the nose, showing spiced cherry, game, thyme and clove notes with hints of mushroom and almond. The palate offers bright fruit flavours combined with silky texture and supple mouthfeel, finishing firm and drying. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2020
The fruit for this wine was harvested from a number of vineyard sites on the Martinborough terrace and the Dry River Flats further south.
After passing over a sorting table, the berries were destemmed into a open top fermenter and inoculated with a cultured yeast. During fermentation, the temperature reached on average 28ºC, and the wines were pumped over twice daily. After approximately 12 days on skins, the wine was pressed into a stainless steel tank where it was inoculated for malolactic fermentation then a portion was racked to a combination of older French oak puncheons and barriques. After four months of aging in oak, the barrels were emptied back to the stainless steel tank and the resulting blend was filtered. Bottling took place in September 2020
Established in 1993, Alana Estate is a boutique winery nestled in the heart of the Martinborough township. Alana ffocusses on producing small batches of artisanal wine with a minimum of intervention in the wine making process.
Food Pairing: Perfect with a roasted salmon or pasta dish.
