Description
- Vanillin oak
- Apricot & rockmelon
- Brioche
- Long finishing
"Beautifully ripe and complex, showing apricot, rockmelon, vanillin oak and brioche characters on the nose, followed by a flavoursome palate delivering succulent fruit flavours together with creamy texture and juicy acidity, finishing long and delectable. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2021
The fruit was hand harvested from a vineyard in the Dry River area of Martinborough. It was whole bunch pressed directly to a combination of French oak 500 and 600L puncheons, and 225L barriques, where it underwent a spontaneous fermentation. Throughout its 11 months of barrel aging, the lees were stirred every two weeks, and spontaneous malolactic fermentation took place in the spring. In February the barrels were emptied and blended under a nitrogen gas cover, before protein stabilisation and filtration. The wine was bottled in March 2021.
Established in 1993, Alana Estate is a boutique winery nestled in the heart of the Martinborough township. Alana focusses on producing small batches of artisanal wine with a minimum of intervention in the wine making process.
Food Pairing: Delicious with herbed-crusted cod and a pea puree.
