Description
- Stylish oak
- Blackberries
- Asian spice
- Fine tannins
"This is splendidly ripe and enticing on the nose with cassis, cigar, Asian spice and stylish oak aromas on the nose. The palate displays excellent concentration and plush texture, wonderfully framed by layers of fine tannins, finishing structured and persistent. At its best: now to 2033" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2024
Old school winemaking techniques including open fermented and hand plunged fermentation techniques tried and tested for generations still show that time and care make a good wine. The nose is intensely full, filled with aromas of eucalyptus, pencil shavings, melded with cassis, blackberries, violets and savoury, earthy hints. Full-bodied, bright fruit aromas of cassis, blackberries, violets interweave a hint of leather, unfolding eucalyptus, pencil shavings and earth. Fine-grained tannin extraction offers a chewy palate; fruit is bright and attractive with complexity, lively acidity added roundness.
Vintage 2022 kicked off with average to above average rainfall during winter through to November giving way to a very dry December with a large rain event in February freshening up the vines leading into harvest. Yields from the vineyard was low but the fruit showed excellent intensity with acid levels holding in the grapes for a prolonged period providing near perfect ripening conditions. Winemakers are talking about vintage ‘22 wines as elegant and structured, with depth and length of flavour.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with grilled lamb and a chestnut and cashew loaf.
