Marlborough March

A curation of standout wines that highlight the distinctive character and quality that make Marlborough a benchmark for modern wine.

A Sense of Place

Home to some of New Zealand’s most celebrated wines, Marlborough is renowned for its pure fruit expression, vibrant acidity and unmistakable sense of place.

Climate

Marlborough has a cool maritime climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Warm, sunny days allow grapes to ripen fully, while cool evenings help retain acidity and aromatic freshness. A long growing season encourages flavour development without excessive sugar accumulation, resulting in balanced, expressive wines.

Soils

Much of the region sits on free draining alluvial soils formed by ancient river systems. Gravelly river stones dominate in some areas, while others contain loess, clay and silt. These variations in soil type contribute to distinct sub regional expressions.

Rapaura Springs

Every glass of Rapaura Springs is a source of adventure and discovery.

The Awatere Valley

Awatere offers a noticeably different profile compared with its neighbouring valleys. It is often described as more restrained, structured and age-worthy. This subregional distinction has helped elevate Marlborough’s reputation beyond a single style, showcasing regional nuance and site expression.

Vavasour is the founding winery of Awatere Valley. An intimate knowledge of this dramatic southern pocket of Marlborough rewards with these wines of extraordinary elegance, perfume and texture.
