"A lifted, fruity, varietal and pungent bouquet of fresh herbs and tropical fruits, pink grapefruit and white spice along with some mineral suggestions. All of these ideas come alive on the palate with pushed along with a decent amount of acidity and wet stone mineral quality. Flavours of green apple and white fleshed topical fruits, snow pea and fresh herbs. Balnaced, youthful, well made and ready to drink from 2023 through end of summer 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Aug 2023

With the colour of freshly cut green straw, this Massey Dacta Sauvignon Blanc shows ripe nettles, lemon, limes and guava aromas complementing a palate of ripe herbal characters and subtle tropical nuances with generous mouthfeel full of flavour and structure that has remarkable length and poise. Super stuff and superb imbibing on the patio!

Another challenging growing season with a wet winter and plenty of surface water on the vineyards as we moved into bud burst and spring frost season with a very hard frost the last week of September – luckily our sauvignon had not yet totally pushed leaf. The rest of the growing season was one of plenty of rain events and humidity a result of La Nina, resulting in some hard yakka in the vineyard around canopy management and minimizing mildews. As Cyclone Gabrielle devastated the North Island on the 5th Feb 2023, Marlborough was extremely lucky its ‘tail’ did not enter the region and we had a perfect Indian summer to finish the ripening season, dry the region out and deliver the most exceptional fruit I have not seen since 2011.

From our family-owned vineyard Alice Mills on the Wairau Plains, this fruit was machine harvested and off skins into tank to ferment with neutral yeasts to maintain distinctive, yet subtle vineyard characters described above. The young wine was then left on light lees to further develop weight and complexity until being blended in late June and bottled in mid-July.

As kids; the farm was all about that big red tractor which captivated our imaginations. The real name was such a mouthful that from our earliest memories it was known as the Massey Dacta. This wine is a tribute to the fantastic memories we had growing up in rural New Zealand; and of course – the Massey Dacta!!
