Connoiseurs will delight in this vintage 2022 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. Bright fruit leaps from the glass which gleams pale gold with a touch of green. Aromas of gold kiwifruit, floral lime and nectarine swirl together with herbaceous notes of basil. The palate displays kiwifruit, ruby grapefruit, passionfruit skin and fresh herbs with a hint of wet stone. Well defined acid balances the fruit, gives structure and creates a lovely tension. This powerful, concentrated expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc finishes long and clean with lingering fruit and minerality.

We crafted Toi Toi Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from three Marlborough vineyards, each of which bring their own expression to the wine; Brookdale Vineyard in the Southern Valley’s, our new Calrossie Vineyard nestled in a secluded valley between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys and Wrekin Road in the Upper Brancott Valley.

In 2022 the Reserve is made up from 8 parcels of wine, 7 steel and 1 fermented in Puncheons. The addition of barrel fermented wine adds more weight and drive along with a savoury complexity.

Vintage 2022 was defined by its challenges. While big bountiful crops stretched the infrastructure, Covid struck the workforce and the weather remained indifferent leading into harvest. But those who allowed the fruit time on the vine were ultimately rewarded with wonderful, fresh and vibrant fruit flavours. Only the most powerful and intense grapes are selected for our Reserve label. Our goal is to bring these incredible flavours from grape to bottle with little interference. This starts by harvesting in the cool evening to retain fruit purity and flavours.

In the winery the wine is given 2-3 hrs of skin contact and then gently pressed. This helps add structure while no fining means we retain more of the natural flavours. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks with an array of yeasts; some to enhance aromatics and some to provide savoury notes, weight and structure. The blending process takes place over 3-5 sessions refining the wine to create the ultimate expression of Sauvignon Blanc our vineyards can produce.
