Description

  • Dry style
  • Citrus & ripe orange
  • Tarragon & basil flower
  • Elegant acidity

"Fresh and inviting, the bouquet shows green apple, rockmelon, kiwifruit and lemon zest aromas. The palate delivers excellent fruit intensity together with fine texture and lively acidity, offering fabulous drinking. At its best: now to 2023" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2020

This wine has layers of appealing flavours, with citrus aromas of ripe Seville orange and grapefruit pith, with lifted notes of tarragon and basil flower. This is complemented by mineral notes of oyster shell and wet stone. The palate has a refreshing and elegant acidity, with lovely fruit weight giving an appealingly full palate. This wine has a mineral richness that leads through to a pleasant and lingering finish that leaves you wanting more.

The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single block in the Lower Wairau Valley of Marlborough, from a single estate owned by the Holdaway Family.

The 2020 vintage was an excellent one for Marlborough. A warm and dry Summer provided perfect ripening conditions, with the classic Marlborough cool nights helping the grapes retain their acidity. The harvest period had ideal conditions, with no weather pressure so harvest decisions were made easily, resulting in clean fruit with excellent flavour concentration.

I tried this wine at a restaurant in Wellington and liked it so much that I set about finding out where I could buy it. Black Market was the only store I could find it and I am happy with my purchase.
