Description
- French oak
- Tobacco
- Licorice
- Chalk tannin
"Dark garnet with a touch of purple; it’s savoury and oaky with wafts of cedar, menthol, tobacco and the merest touch of cassis. The palate is tight, austere even but has refreshing acidity, textural tannins and length. There’s just a hardness on the finish, but I’m giving this the benefit of doubt or rather, more time" Halliday Wine Companion, Jan 2020
"This is magnificently expressed on the nose showing cassis, dark cherry, vanilla, tobacco and cedary oak characters, followed by a superbly weighted palate that is rich and concentrated. The wine offers wonderful fruit purity as well as seductive complexity, classically framed by fine, chalky tannins" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2019
"The long ripening season of 2017 allowed Yarra Valley’s cabernet producers the luxury of picking fruit the shows both primary richness and elegant refinement. This wine spent 18 months in French oak barriques – its influence on the wine only positive, as it affords it the structure to flourish over the next decade. Red licorice, blueberries, black cherries and that quality, toasty oak. Aristocratic and poised. So much to like about this wine. Cassis and dark chocolate. Just-ripe cabernet fruit with sinew and length. Beautifully made. Kudos to the grape-grower" Nick Butler, The Real Review, Dec 2019
This wine displays a dark brick red in the glass, combined with blackcurrants, rhubarb and autumn leaves on the nose. The palate is densely structured with tannin tightly wound around a core of dark berry fruits. Coffee, chocolate and spices abound.
2017 was an exceptional year. A classic Yarra Valley growing season, a wet spring followed by moderate daily temperatures and cool nights. Perfectly balanced vines allowed the grapes to ripen in optimal conditions. In these years, the pristine fruit flavours combined with intensity and power give the wine balance and longevity.
Food Pairing: Pair with Slow Cooker Beef Stew or Teriyaki Beef Stir-Fry.
