Description

Wonderfully rich and perfumed, with aromatics of lychee and rose water. Shows concentrated floral, lychee and ginger flavours with a refreshing finish. Drink now or cellar up to 4 years.

The growing season in Marlborough started out warm and dry, resulting in very even flowering and ultimately balanced vines with the right amount of crop to get them through to harvest. The warm weather continued through Spring and Summer, with periodic rains which kept the vines hydrated through the warm growing season. The warmer conditions meant that harvest started around two weeks earlier than the previous year, with fruit that was full of flavour, naturally balanced acidity and lovely weight.

Yealands Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. This results in naturally low cropping fruit with intense flavour and structure. The parcel of Gewürztraminer that makes this Single Vineyard wine is located on a warm sheltered terrace, within the Seaview vineyard. The soil is predominantly windblown loess.

This Gewürztraminer was harvested, destemmed and pressed off gently to settle in a small stainless steel tank for 48 hours. A portion of the juice was racked off, taking light lees to old French barriques with the other portion going to tank for fermentation. Post fermentation the barrels were stirred twice weekly to build richness and weight. The two portions were racked, blended then stabilised and filtered before bottling.

Thinking differently is what they do at Yealands. Crafting award-winning wines in harmony with nature has seen them lead the world in sustainable winegrowing. But most importantly, it means great tasting wines which don’t cost the earth.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with spicy dishes such as Vietnamese duck salad or Thai fish curry.

This wine is suitable for vegetarians, vegans and a gluten free diet.
