1x Ceres Artists Collection Inlet Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2016

Awarded Gold Medal: International Wine Challenge 2019

AWARDED 19/20 POINTS: Raymon Chan Aug 2018

"Ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the edge with slight purple hues. The nose is well-concentrated with a firmly packed core of ripe, dark-red and black berried fruits harmoniously melded with dark herbs and earth, and a little whole bunch stalk perfume, unfolding dark-red flora elements. This has density and presence. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich and sweet flavours of ripe, dark-red berry fruit with an amalgam of black fruits, dark herbs a little earth and notes of whole bunch stalk complexities. This has a solid core with plenty of fleshy presence, and the fruit is underlined by plenty of fine-grained tannin extraction with soft acidity. The wine carries to a soft, lingering, red berry fruited finish. This is a firmly packed Pinot noir with plenty of depth and presence of dark-red and black fruits with herbs and earth and whole bunch complexities on a structured palate. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-8+ years" Raymon Chan, Aug 2018

Ceres flagship single vineyard Pinot Noir delivers complexity and concentration, an elegantly poised with brooding dark cherry, wild thyme, plum and liquorice flavours. This impressive Pinot will continue to improve with age 5-7 years from vintage.

Inlet Vineyard 2016 Pinot Noir was fermented with wild yeast and spent 28 days on the skins; around 10 days cold soak, 8 – 9 days in ferment then 10 days post ferment. Situated on a river terrace above the Bannockburn Inlet along Cairnmuir Road in Bannockburn, planted in 2002. The soils are loess ranging from 200-600mm on top off deep clay gravels, around 160,000 years old. On an elevation of 225-245m 2.25ha.

A philosophy of minimal oak influence is followed, maturation in well-seasoned / aged barrels provides for the wines development. Free from oak flavours allows this wine to shine as the most candid expression of Pinot Noir and its site, with a total of 80 dozen bottled. After a normal budburst the vintage started cool, which slowed the vines down. The temperature recovered in late December and had a cool January but a long hot finish from February to end of March. This resulted in very perfumed and aromatic fruit with a wider range of flavours than normal. There is a significant acid backbone which provides structure and definition and will certainly aid in the aging of this wine.

1x Ceres Artists Collection Black Rabbit Central Otago Pinot Noir 2016

AWARDED 19/20 POINTS: Raymon Chan Aug 2018

"Even ruby-red colour, lighter edged with slight purple hues. This has a beautifully fragrant nose with ethereal aromas of red berry fruits layered with an array of red florals, along with piquant herbal detail. This has aromatic finesse and intensity, and builds to form a taut core. Medium-full bodied, the palate has bright and vibrant, beautifully aromatic flavours of red berry fruit entwined with a layering of red florals, along with subtle notes of herbs. The mouthfeel is refreshing and crisp with a refined, but sinewy core and line, with fine-grained, flowery tannin extraction in support. The palate has fresh acidity in support enlivening the fruit expression, and the wine carries with good energy and tension to an elegant, lingering finish. This is a beautifully fragrant Pinot Noir with red berry fruits and an array of florals, with very fine grained extraction and structure and a fresh mouthfeel. This is an expression of beauty. Match with poultry and pork over the next 6-7+ years" Raymond Chan, Aug 2018

This is engaging and mesmerising; the seductive bouquet shows sweet berry, truffle, vanilla, smoked game, dried herb and floral aromas, leading to a gracefully powerful palate that is fleshy and juicy. The wine displays stunning concentration while remaining exquisitely elegant and refined. It is symphonic and gratifying with layers of delectable flavours.
