Essence of Marlborough sauvignon blanc from the greener side of the flavour spectrum" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, The Real Review, Sep 2023

"Beautifully composed and brightly expressed, the fragrant bouquet shows Granny Smith apple, kiwifruit, rockmelon and kaffir lime notes on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate displaying excellent fruit intensity backed by fine texture and racy acidity, finishing long and vibrant. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2023

"Fragrant, steely, stony soils and ripe citrus fruits bouquet. Additional aromas of lemon and grapefruit, green apple and fresh herbs, some green bell-pepper and fine lees complexity. On the palate a dry wine with plenty of impact from the core fruit flavours and acid line. Pungent and flavourful, crisp and salivating, balanced and well made. Core flavours on the palate mirror the bouquet with an even and quite lengthy finish. Best drinking from 2023 through 2027" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2023

The 2022 Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Sauvignon Blanc has lifted aromatics of fresh garden peas and blackcurrants mingled with herbs such as coriander. On the palate are concentrated flavours of jalapeño and lemongrass, with a punchy finish of lime zest and a hint of gunflint. A key point of interest in this wine is the chalky texture reminiscent of wet river stones.

The Taylors Pass Vineyard is located on the northern bank of the Awatere River in southern Marlborough. The average vine age is between 14–19 years old. Sheltered from prevailing cool easterly winds, each terrace of the vineyard has only stony gravels, gravels as nearest the river, whereas the mid-terrace has alluvial silt soils and the highest terrace is deeper silt over clay-papa base. This patchwork of soil types provides the vineyard with dramatically variable ripening patterns.

The Marlborough growing season started off well with very little frost pressure during spring. Flowering went without a glitch, due healthy soil moisture levels the canopies looked lush and vibrant. The start of 2022 summer was slightly colder; February was below the long-term average in temperature however the weather settled with a slightly damp autumn.

https://www.blackmarket.co.nz/products/villa-maria-single-vineyard-taylors-pass-marlborough-sauvignon-blanc-2022
