Description
Aromatic herbs of rosemary, lavender and basil overlying plum, red-berry and licorice notes. Supple and fine grained, this medium bodied Syrah shows an elegant expression of fruit, darker notes of licorice and tar, and a complexing array of floral and dried herb characters.
2016 was dry and a little warmer than average. There were small bunches and berries with great concentration, and we experienced very low crops. The acid and flavour balance allowed picking at moderate sugar levels.
Harvested late in the season by hand to take advantage of an extended ripening period. The grapes were destemmed to small open fermenters with a small amount of whole bunches and fermented naturally before being drained to barrels. After barrel maturation of 28 months the wine was blended to tank prior to bottling.
This Syrah responds well to cellaring. Its fresh character will slowly mellow and complex, feel confident to leave it to at least 2024.
