The tannins are rounded and supple and in balance with the acid. The finish is rich and lingering. A wine that will age gracefully for at least another decade if stored in ideal cellaring conditions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 2022 vintage could be best described as challenging. A reflection of the wetter than average summer impacting picking decisions. Our Wilyabrup vineyard however fared well and produced fresh, bright, flavoursome fruit to make wines from. The resulting wines from the vintage are fresh, balanced and display wonderful varietal fruit characteristics.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis wine was crafted from old vine Shiraz grown on the original Sandalford Wilyabrup vineyard in Margaret River. The fruit was harvested in the cool of the night and transported to the Sandalford winery before destemming to small 5-tonne open fermenters. Following a short cold maceration, the must was allowed to undergo a spontaneous fermentation. The ferment was gently worked to extract flavour, colour and tannin before pressing to tank at completion. The wine was then transferred to 100% French oak barriques (25% new) for malolactic fermentation and subsequent maturation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wine spent 14 months in these barrels prior to blending and bottling. An outstanding example of Margaret River Shiraz that can be cellared with confidence over the next decade.
