The first vineyard they bought, Le Sondraie, is next door to Ornellaia and was previously rented by them. It is 50 hectares in size and is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Vermentino.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs its name suggests, this red wine is characterised by aromas of the Mediterranean scrub and the enticing scent of sea salt. Mediterra is a wine with great personality that expresses the intensity of the whole, intact fruit, kissed by sun and sea.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt was a complex year from an agricultural point of view and required careful management. The constant extreme heat and the extended drought created many headaches for vineyard management. However, we managed to ensure the conditions for stable ripening with attention and determination.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRainfall at the end of August contributed to the natural realignment of the core characteristics and made it possible to postpone the start of what seemed to be an early harvest; it took more than a month to harvest our grape varietals, honour their respective ripening periods, and bring everything to the cellar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grapes were healthy, with a good level of ripeness and excellent flavour. Fermentation of the grape must was within normal parameters.
