Martinborough Vineyard produces the finest Pinot Noir in the New World with a focus on “Handcrafted Excellence in Wine.” A youthful, companion brand to Martinborough Vineyard, Te Tera shares the same commitment to crafting authentic expressions of the premium Martinborough appellation.

Te Tera Pinot Noir comes mainly from our younger vineyards (vine age ranges from 9-24 years old) within the Martinborough appellation. These vineyards sit on a mix of alluvial and clay soils. Our younger vineyards tend to produce Sauvignon Blancs that feature crisp, dry, and citrus qualities and provide a mineral finish.

The 2024 vintage will go down as one of the greats for the Martinborough region. The season started very well with good soil moisture and warm winter temperatures. Spring frosts were minimal and we got through this period relatively unscathed. The critical flowering period of late November and early December was cooler than expected and led to crops being reduced by about 30% across Pinot and Chardonnay. Luckily the second half of the season from Christmas onwards was near perfect with dry, warm, settled conditions throughout. Autumn started early with cooler nights in late February and we commenced picking on the 11th March and were finished three weeks later.

These grapes are mainly hand-picked and hand sorted from our vineyards in Martinborough. The berries are fully destemmed and fermented with natural yeast. During this time the ferments are hand plunged and the must moved around to gently extract tannin from the berries and build structure. Post fermentation the wine is put into French oak barrels where natural malolactic conversion occurs in the and the wine is aged for a period of ten months before being blended and bottled the following winter.

Food Pairing: Perfect with grilled or roasted red meats, herbs, and earthy vegetables or mushrooms.
