Glossy purple fruits, mulberry and dark cherry, sweet sage flower lift balanced with savoury notes of aniseed, cured meats, with some white pepper lift Juicy entry, blue and dark fruits, plum and blueberry, little dark cocoa, fine and long, supple.
The 2018 vintage was excellent in McLaren Vale. We were set up with good winter rains in 2017 so we had very healthy canopies going into the growing season. The ripening period was warm without any extreme heat or adverse weather events. In turn the wines show excellent depth of colour and flavour. A more structural year than 2017 but with exceptional balance.
The Empty Quarter is a Shiraz/ Mourvèdre/ Grenache/Touriga co-ferment. The varieties are all picked together and fermented in open top concrete fermenters for around 10 days on skins. The wine is then pressed off into seasoned oak for approx. 12 months before bottling.
