Up front & delectable with plenty of tasty flavours
Wine Orbit
Description
- Toasty oak
- Black Doris plum
- Mixed spice & vanilla
- Pleasing, dry finish
"Fabulously fruited and brightly expressed, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, sweet raspberry, mixed spice and almond characters, leading to a flavoursome palate that is succulent and supple. It is up front and delectable with plenty of tasty flavours, finishing firm and pleasingly dry" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2019
On the nose, it is possible to identify a range of characters - black cherry fruit, vanilla, balsamic, leather and tobacco leaf. Medium bodied palate with elegant ripe flavours and excellent depth.
Bodegas Navalon is a family-run winery established by Don Juan Megía Sánchez in 1904. Valdepeñas which literally means "Valley of Rocks" is located where the Jabalón River meanders through hills bordering with stony clay-lime soils. Low-yielding, Tempranillo vines averaging 30 years old are planted at 650metres in an extreme continental climate with cold winters and hot, dry summers where they produce exceptional intensity of flavour.
Anciano Tempranillo is crafted by Maria José Marchante from hand harvested grapes in late August/early September and is exactly the sort of wine one would expect from the classic, upscale package. Fermentation was at controlled temperatures (below 28º C) in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then matured for at least six months in oak barriques with varying toasting levels. 2015 was rated “Excellent” by the Valdepeñas DO.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with red meats and mature cheese.
