This was the top-scorer of the family - complex, pretolly, oaky, with a good palate weight, a touch of sweetness and a long finish\" Metro Top 50 Wines 2020\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tIntensely golden hued. Hugely savoury and showing notes of ripe autumnal fruits and white flowers. Not your usual new world Pinot Blanc, the wine is powerful and rich, showing the minimal handling, natural yeast and high level of lees in fermentation and aging. It is framed by fine boned acidity and a nice low pH. Delicious!\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tHaving had the first vintage under their belt, it was wonderful to commence Vintage 2018 having had some experience with the plots and the wines that have translated. Although the winemkers did not experience the challenging nature of cool weather over the ripening period in 2018, they did face another difficult vintage with some challenging intermittent rain events, so it was crucial to have a great deal of vigilance and care with picking decisions, and sorting of the fruit. Only the best bunches were picked and made it to be pressed. Fortunately the Pinot Blanc was very low yielding naturally which enabled an early pick with good Brix and flavour ripeness.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tAt Kelly Washington they seek the most unique and diverse parcels of high quality fruit, which they translate into their elegant and honest wines. Working with such exceptional fruit, their aim is to is to showcase and explore sub regionality of New Zealand's wine growing regions, but moreover making wines of provenance. A long, hot, dry summer ensured fantastic ripening, with all of their Pinot Blanc bunches ripening very consistently. The trick was to pick early enough to retain acidity, which is the hallmark of all their of wines at Kelly Washington. They managed to pick the block at a wonderful level of ripeness, with great fruit concentration, acid structure and extremely low disease pressure.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tAt Kelly Washington they seek the most unique and diverse parcels of high quality fruit, which they translate into their elegant and honest wines.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\t100% Whole bunch pressed. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows youth. The nose is marked, pleasant and of good intensity. We perceive a dominant of primary scents: flowers, citrus fruits (lemon zest) and spices (white pepper). The airing enhances these scents and reveals apple, pear, hop and a light smokiness. The nose has a nice character. Its youth shows radiance and a welcomed sensation of freshness. The onset in the mouth is slender and full-bodied. The wine evolves on a medium with a frank liveliness, marked by a sparkling note. We find the same aromas as on the nose, still dominated by white flowers, citrus fruits (yuzu zest, lemon), hop, pear, apple and this smokiness. The finish has a good length, 5-6 caudalies, with a frank liveliness and a delicate bitterness. The balance is elegant and slightly strong, which gives the wine character. The complex range of flavours is pleasant.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tThis Pinot Blanc is located essentially in the vines of Saering \u0026amp; Spiegel as well as the localities of Bux and Bollenberg.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tPneumatic pressing, static racking. Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for one to four months. Maturing for seven months on fine lees.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tEven though the Pinot Blanc is very old (already known in the 16th century), it achieved its present reputation only during the last few years. This grape variety is not originating from the Bourgogne (Burgundy) region but comes from Northern Italy. It was first introduced by the Anglo-Saxons. This was a blessing, given the added pressures the Covid-19 presented right before harvest commenced. Descriptors such as purity, vibrancy, vitality, intensity summarised all of the fruit that was harvested, which was supported by extremely settled and warm conditions over flowering and then in the lead up to harvest commencing.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\r\n\tA combination of heavy and light soils have aided to create a deep wine full of great personality and natural balance. The low-lying Haardt mountains protect the area from cold, wet Atlantic weather, making it one of the warmer and drier areas of Germany. Wine grapes do quite well here where it is possible to achieve full ripeness in every vintage. The predominant soil type in this area is well-drained, weathered sandstone.
