Description

"Bright, light golden yellow colour, lighter on the edge. This has a full and gently concentrated, deeply packed nose with fresh, ripe yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits along with citrus fruit elements entwined with creamy barrel-ferment, and nutty, toasty oak. The aromatics are refined and vibrant, and show good intensity. Full-bodied, the palate has rich and deeply packed flavours of yellow stonefruits, tropical and citrus fruit melded with a layering of creamy and nutty oak. The flavours are mouthfilling and detailed in complexity. The mouthfeel is vibrant with fruit richness and energy, and enlivened by fine acid poise, the wine carrying with good drive to a long and sustained, complex-nuanced finish. This is a rich and vibrant, well-concentrated Chardonnay with a complex array of fruit and oak flavours. Match with roasted pork and veal dishes over the next 4-5 years. Mendoza clone fruit, vines 13 y.o., fully indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 85% new French oak, undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. Certified Asurequality organic" Raymond Chan, Feb 2018

"Opulent and plush, this generously expressed chardonnay displays mango, grilled peach, vanilla and toasted hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that is fleshy and silky. The wine offers terrific fruit intensity, wonderfully complemented by stylish oak infusion. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2018

This is a bold wine of distinction, deep straw in colour in the glass. Exuding rich aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits, tropical fruits along with citrus fruit elements entwined with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty toasty oak.

Consistently producing one of New Zealand's premium Chardonnay's from the Chardonnay capital of New Zealand. Our 2015 recently reviewed Top 5 Chardonnay of New Zealand by Cuisine 2017 and this wine is no exception to the rule being awarded 5 stars from Raymond Chan.

The grapes used for Wrights' Reserve Chardonnay were grown using organic and biodynamic techniques. The grapes are fully certified organic through Asurequality from Wrights' Ormond Valley Vineyard. The Ormond Valley Appellation has a unique microclimate, hottest day time temperatures, but coolest night time temperature. The unique clay and limestone soils help produce one of New Zealand's premium chardonnay's. The chardonnay grapes are grown from the Mendoza clone. Producing small berries, with more skin to flesh ratio ensuring more intensity of flavour and richness.

This wine was barrel aged in new French oak for 15 months, lees stirred and has undergone a full malolactic fermentation. A lovely wine now, or a stunning wine with 5 to 10 years cellaring.

An excellent chardonnay that stacks up well against other costing way more. Full, fruity, complex and toasty without being overly oaky. Excellent value. I have already bought another case.

Possibly approached it a bit early. Should develop with a few more years - if I can wait that long.
