Description

Salmon pink tending to light, bright copper in the glass with lifted aromatics of freshly crushed strawberries, rose petal and Turkish delight adding lovely layers of perfume on the nose. The palate is long, fresh and flavoursome. Red berry fruits immediately fill the mouth with a refreshing, dry finish of impressive length.

A prolonged cool and wet growing season meant the vines were lush and healthy heading into ripening and carrying slightly higher than average yields. This resulted in later maturity and harvest dates which was accentuated by the cool and wet ripening months of January, February and March – conditions not experienced in Western Australia for over 10 years with February and March providing the coolest and wettest conditions experienced in the Margaret River region for over 15 years. The month of April really saved this vintage for Evan & Tate! Although cool, it was extremently dry and allowed the last of the white varieties to achieve full ripeness and the red varieties to accumulate sufficient flavour and importantly, tannin ripeness.

This is only the third vintage of the Strawberry Fields Rose made by Evans & Tate with the Shiraz variety from two distinct Margaret River vineyards being selected to make this wine. These two vineyards are located on warm soiled sites in the Margaret River wine region selected on their ability to ripen Shiraz early whilst achieving soft, ripe tannins – this is critical to making our balanced, flavorsome, vibrant style of Rose with perfumed aromatics reminiscent of walking through a field of strawberries! The cold fruit was harvested in the middle of the night at 12.0 Baume once the ideal flavor and acid balance was achieved with the fruit then being loaded directly into the press and the juice gently separated from the skins. A neutral yeast strain was used to ensure pure, vibrant fruit character was at the forefront of the style. Following this cool fermentation, the wine was stabilized and filtered only once prior to an early bottling to capture this freshness and vibrancy.

Food Pairing: Ideal for a barbecue and for drinking with spicy food such as curries, also good with ripe peaches.
