"Combining youthful fruit flavours with spicy undertones" Wine Orbit

Balancing succulent stone fruits & rock melon, before revealing an elegant fresh finish.

The Waimea's 2017 vintage will stand up against even the spiciest of cuisines. We therefore recommend trying with Vietnamese rolls with a sweet chili dipping sauce or spiced cauliflower and Kimchi salad

Description

"The bouquet offers lovely ripe aromas of yellow peach, poached pear, jasmine and spice on the nose. The palate is succulent and rounded, and displays attractive fruit intensity and silky texture, leading to a lingering refreshing finish. The wine combines youthful fruit flavours with spicy undertones, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2017

Pale straw, honeyed colour in the glass. Offering white peach, quince, pear drops, lavender and exotic spices on the nose. whilst the palate has a soft entry of ripe stonefuits, rock melon and almonds, balanced by a silky, creamy texture before an elegant fresh finish.

Harvested 2nd Apri-14th April 2017, the Pinot Gris grapes for this wine are 100% from the Waimea Plains, Nelson regin. Sourced from Waimea's Annabrook, Hope and Hunter estates. The soils in this region are stony overlyed with sandy loam, deep river silt and free draining gravels.

After cool early morning harvest the fruit from three premium vineyards were gently pressed to create six unique parcels, retaining only freerun and light pressings juice fractions. Fermented cool with selected aromatic yeast strains to retain varietal intensity and character. 5% of blend was matured in French oak puncheons and stirred to create a rich, textural component. All other components matured on light yeast lees in tank for 5 months and then racked prior to careful blending.

Cellaring potential is upto 3 years, though also this wine is drinking beautifully now too!

Food Pairing: Pinot Gris is a really useful match, pairing with everything anywhere and Waimea's 2017 vintage is no exception. Standing up against even the spiciest of cuisines. We therefore recommend trying with Vietnamese rolls with a sweet chili dipping sauce or spiced cauliflower and Kimchi salad
