Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Description

"Attractively fruited and beautifully lifted, the wine shows spiced cherry, toasted almond, thyme and dark mushroom aromas on the nose, followed by a juicy palate that’s supple and smooth. It’s elegantly complex and flavoursome with fine-grained tannins, finishing delightfully dry" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Moderately deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues on the rim.  The nose is elegant in proportion with tight aromas of raspberry fruit entwined with subtle notes of herbs and oak spice.  This is up-front and possesses a youthful vibrant graininess.  Medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front, sweet primary flavours of dark raspberries entwined with dark herbs and subtle spicy, nutty oak.  The mouthfeel is vigorous and fruity, quite uncomplicated with robust textures from the grainy tannins.  The palate is enlivened by fresh acidity and the wine carries to an accessible, fruity finish.  This is an up-front and uncomplicated Pinot Noir with youthful vigour, with flavours of dark raspberries, herbs and oak with grainy tannins and fresh acidity.  Match with antipasto and tapas, and barbecued red meat dishes over the next 3+ years.  Fruit from the Upper Wairau Valley, fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine given oak contact" Raymond Chan, Oct 2018

"Grown in the Wairau Valley, this red is bargain-priced. Bright ruby, it is full-bodied and vibrantly fruity, with youthful vigour, good depth of fresh, plummy, slightly herbal flavours, and a touch of complexity. Drink now-2020" Michael Cooper, Mar 2019

This wine contains galeforce aromas of extreme intensity that will blow you away! Each mouthful of this vibrant mini-storm is balanced to perfection as the ripe red berry and savoury flavours combine beautifully with the precipitation of juicy acidity refreshing the palate, ready for the next gust of wine.

The strong winds of the Upper Wairau Valley of Marlborough often reach Galeforce intensity. The vines find these Galeforce winds very unnatural and they divert all their energy into producing the juiciest fruit with the most flavour for the birds to spread their seeds. The ripe fruit for this wine was gently harvested from the vines using state of the art harvesters. Once at the winery, the pulp was pumped into a stainless steel tank to be fermented on skins until completely dry. Once the ferment was complete, the brilliant red wine was pressed off the skins and warmed to induce the malolactic fermentation that helps soften the wine before preparing for bottling.
