Description
"A lovely elegant rendition of the variety, the delicately lifted bouquet shows lemon zest, green rockmelon, fresh pear and floral characters. It is focused and linear on the palate with excellent fruit purity and vibrancy, leading to a lingering crisp finish. The wine offers lovely balance and brightness. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2017
"Bright, light yellow colour with pale gold hues at the heart, lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh and clean with a tight, elegant core of white stonefruits with a very delicate amalgam of florals and minerals. The aromatics are refreshing. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate is crisp and taut with slender and linear flavours of white stonefruits along with subtle notes of florals and minerals. The fruit is firmly bound forming an elegant core. The mouthfeel is clean and slippery, and brisk with very fine textures and a racy acid line, carrying to a light finish. This is a taut and slender dry Pinot Grigio with light flavours of stonefruits and hints of florals and minerals on a slippery, clean palate. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 2 years. Awatere Valley fruit cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 11.5% alc. and 0.6 g/L RS" Raymond Chan, Oct 2018
Trapped in the bottle are Galeforce aromas of lemon zest, green rockmelon, fresh pear and floral characters. It is well structured with a good amount of body and a lower alcohol footprint.
The Awatere Valley of Marlborough is a relatively new grape growing region of New Zealand. The most powerful element this valley has upon vines is the wind. Predominantly from the West, these winds drive through the valley from any direction and quite often reach Galeforce intensity. Galeforce winds are very unnatural for vines and they expend all their energy into producing the juiciest fruit with the most flavour for the birds to spread their seed. The fruit is harvested before the birds can get to them.
Harvest is started before the grapes become too ripe to capture the fresh crisp flavours of the Pinot Gris grape. The berries are healthy and pop off the vine as the machine harvester gently picks the fruit under the watchful eye of the clear night skies.
After the juice is separated from the skins, it is fermented slowly in stainless steel tanks until dry. Once finished, the wine is racked off lees and left to relax until bottling.
