Description

  • Dry style
  • Mandarin
  • Citrus & lime
  • Racy acidity

"Crisp, dry-ish riesling in a delicate style with lime, citrus and white flowers flavours. Subtle, ethereal wine that suits a variety of foods and occasions" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, July 2017

"It is youthful yet offers terrific drinking. The inviting bouquet shows mandarin, apricot, lime zest and floral characters with a hint of flinty complexity. The palate is focused and beautifully weighted, and delivers excellent fruit intensity and vibrancy, enhanced with subtle sweetness and racy acidity. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2016

"Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. The nose is very fresh and finely presented, showing moderately taut, but intense aromas of lime fruit along with exotic tangerine notes, lifted white florals, hint of sherbet and honeysuckle. Dry to taste and light-bodied, the palate is tightly bound with good intensity and depth of lime and tangerine fruit, entwined with aromatic white florals and sherbet notes. The mouthfeel is smooth and flowing, guided by soft textures with fresh, lacy acidity lending poise and a mouthwatering line. The wine carries to a dry finish with lime and floral flavours. This is an elegant dry Riesling with good depth and intensity of lime and exotic citrus fruits with a smooth-flowing, poised, thirst-quenching mouthfeel. Serve as an aperitif and with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Clone 239 fruit from one hectare, vines planted in 2010, cool-fermented to 10.2% alc. and 4.5 g/L RS, TA 7.2 g/L and pH 3.06" Raymond Chan, Raymond Chan Reviews, Dec 2016

This is an elegant dry-style Riesling. An enticing aroma of white florals, lime and savoury apple. Medium bodied, off-dry in style, with intense citrus, lemon-barley and marmalade flavors, showing good depth. Drink now or age for 6 years and let the wine show the developing complexities of a great Riesling.

Established in 1996 the family owned and managed Borthwick Vineyard produce wine with flavours that are a direct reflection of the Gladstone region, New Zealand. Ancient stony, alluvial soils and a cool climate allow the grapes to grow in harmony in their environment. Sustainable practices and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery allow our wines to display their distinctive singlevineyard characteristics and flavour.

2016 vintage was a year to pick on flavour. Early spring growth, a long growing season, very dry summer with dry harvest conditions have allowed the berries to develop to full ripening potential. Planted in 2010 our one hectare of Riesling vines are lovingly cared for ensure optimal concentration and ripeness in the wines. Planted in clone 239 on rootstock 3309, the vines produce compact bunches that promote citrus characters and racy acidity, the hallmark of the Borthwick Riesling. Our Riesling is picked and quickly pressed prior to settling and inoculation with selected yeast strains that promote a slow, cool fermentation. The fermentation is arrested when we feel the best balance has occurred between sweetness and acidity.

Quite good. Very delicate, and be careful not to over-chill.
