Wairau River Marlborough Pinot Gris 2017
Wairau River Marlborough Pinot Gris 2017
Description
The pure age of these vines give the wine texture and palate weight. It is rich, floral and fleshy with mouth-filling, pear, crisp apple and spice flavours.
Excellent weather was experienced over flowering which began early December and lasted for around 10 days producing an even and balanced crop with a vibrant and healthy working canopy. Overall it was a cooler than average summer resulted in the 2017 vintage being very condensed, as the growing season was shortened on the back end of Autumn. Harvest began in the last week of March and concluded in the third week of April. Optimal acid balance and sugar ripeness were reached at an earlier physiological ripeness, producing wines with elegance and poise.
From our Home vineyard dating back to 1990, these grapes are from some of the oldest Pinot Gris vines in Marlborough. Harvested in the cool hours of the morning they were gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel vats. A small parcel was fermented and aged in older French oak to add texture and palate weight. After blending the wine was left to settle before bottling on the Wairau River Estate.
